Group hopes to repair old building

Thursday 7th May 2009, 12:36PM BST.

A group is to be formed to save a 100-year-old community building near Oswestry which is in desperate need of repair.

Weston Rhyn Institute’s roof and windows need work and the building’s rendering requires a lot of improvements.

Villagers are being urged to join a new Friends of the Institute group which will apply for funding for the work.

Anne Cherrie, secretary of the institute’s management committee, said: “To get funding from many organisations you have to show the building is well used and one way to prove that is to set up a friends group. We are urging all user groups and also anyone in the community to join the new group.

“Major repairs are needed and we need to get funding to carry out a full inspection to see what needs to done and find out how much it will cost.”

The group will be officially launched on June 20 at the institute. To join call (01691) 774689.
