Play-off fever continued to grip Shropshire today with hundreds of fans rallying behind Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford United in the teams’ promotion bids.

Hundreds of Shrewsbury Town fans were queuing outside the club’s Prostar Stadium from 6am in the hope of snapping up tickets for the team’s play-off semi-final matches against Bury.

And almost 400 supporters have already booked places on coaches for AFC Telford’s long trip for the Blue Square North play-off final in Gateshead on Friday.

Shrewsbury Town general manager Jon Harris said about 6,000 tickets had been sold for the club’s home leg on Thursday before the ticket office opened this morning for general sales.

He said tickets for the away leg on Sunday had also sold well with just 200 remaining.

Mr Harris said the club was delighted with the support being shown by the fans. He said: “We are probably looking at about 3,800 tickets available for the home game tomorrow night which we believe we will sell today and tomorrow.

“There are people who have been queueing since 6am. It’s fantastic and as we have said before we have had great home and away support this season.

“The supporters have really stuck by us and are coming out in numbers to try and help us over the line. It’s a great opportunity to really have the Prostar rocking and everybody can play their part.”

AFC Telford United’s away travel organiser Rob Palin said the club was subsidising transport for fans for the match in Gateshead, with seats priced at £5 for fans.
