Prince in Shropshire today
Tuesday 5th May 2009, 12:09PM BST.
Prince Harry was due to join his brother at RAF Shawbury today.
The prince, who is third in line to the throne, is starting his training as an Army air corps helicopter pilot at Shawbury.
Harry, 24, a lieutenant in the Household Cavalry Regiment, appears to have redirected his career in a bid to give himself a better chance of serving on the frontline.
His brother William, 26, earned his wings last year and has just finished the first part of his course at Shawbury to become an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot.
Prince Harry has been on the fixed wing phase of the Army pilots’ course at RAF Barkston Heath, near Grantham, Lincolnshire. He flew solo for the first time at the start of March, following nine hours of flight training.
Prince William has been at the Defence Helicopter Flying School at Shawbury since January where he completed a refresher course in Squirrel helicopters.
