Green Man back in county
Tuesday 5th May 2009, 3:05PM BST.
The Frost Queen and the Green Man once again battled it out during a weekend of medieval merriment in the Clun valley.
The ancient tradition on Clun bridge was watched by more than 2,000 people who gathered in the village for a traditional May Bank Holiday festival to celebrate the arrival of spring.
The Green Man Festival combined outstanding music, family entertainment and a craft fair all in the shadow of the spectacular Clun Castle.
Two bands entertained the crowds; the Popes and the evergreen Wurzels performed together with local band the Whisky River Boys.
The now famous Frost Queen’s street fair included return visits from the Rhythm Maker and Swords of Chivalry, theatre from Kaleidoscope Theatre Company and Clun Mummers.
Other attractions included street entertainers, food stalls, jazz, craft stalls and demonstrations from local artisans.
Shropshire folk band Whalebone were also on hand to play a free gig at the craft fair.
