Closure of mail offices put back
Tuesday 5th May 2009, 3:40PM BST.
Two Shropshire mail delivery offices which had been due to close have been given a temporary reprieve.
The Royal Mail delivery offices in Ellesmere and Church Stretton had been due to close on May 11, but bosses said today the closures had been put back until June after talking to staff locally.
The offices were due to close and staff and work moved to Oswestry or Craven Arms.
Meanwhile, Pete Kelly, from the Communication Workers’ Union, called for better working conditions for staff at the Ellesmere and Church Stretton offices when he held crunch talks with bosses this morning.
He met with Royal Mail chiefs at 6am to demand better conditions and hours.
Mr Kelly said he has asked Royal Mail to review staff duties in both areas, to ensure they are not working extra hours when the move takes place.
He said: “We talked about the move to Craven Arms and the details of the move.
“We are looking at a revision of the workloads in the Church Stretton office when it moves to Craven Arms and plans are in place for all the changes that may be needed.”
