Holt aims to join 100 club

Grant Holt of Shrewsbury Town runs off to celebrate after scoring to make it 1-0Grant Holt today admitted there will be no better time to notch his 100th career goal than in Shrewsbury’s play-off crunch at Dagenham.

Town’s record signing will again lead the line in the biggest game of the season as Shrewsbury push for the victory they require to extend their season.

Holt has already scored 27 times in all competitions this season, and needs one more to reach the personal landmark of a century of goals.

“It would be a great time to do it,” said the 28-year-old. “I have been disappointed over the last few weeks because I’ve been playing okay but not getting the goals.

“But, as I have said all season, it’s not about me or any other individual, it’s about the team and we still have a chance to achieve something very special this season.”

Holt has urged Town to revel in the unaccustomed role as underdogs at Victoria Road.

“In most of the other games we have played this season we have been favourites, but that’s not the case this weekend,” he said.

“We can play with a relaxed confidence and hopefully that will help us get the result everybody wants.

“The last six or seven weeks we have put in some great performances and probably not got the reward we deserved.

“Hopefully that reward will come tomorrow.”
