Dumped rubbish blocks road
Friday 1st May 2009, 1:56PM BST.
A Shropshire road was left completely blocked after a huge pile of rubbish – including a double bed and builders’ rubble – was dumped by flytippers.
Claverley farmer Andrew Nicholls discovered the mountain of rubbish on Ludstone Lane, near Hill End, off the B4176, when he went to feed his animals on Sunday afternoon.
He said: “It is just completely out of hand to be honest.
“That was the worst I have ever seen. They just drove up the lane and tipped it on the move.
“There was lots of builders’ rubble, electrical items but the double bed on the top was the piece de resistance,” he added.
Mr Nicholls, Claverley’s former parish council chairman, said the culprits struck during daylight hours some time between 8.30am and 5pm.
He said fly-tippers had also dumped a load of rubble in a gateway the previous Thursday morning. These were the latest in a series of incidents which have occurred along the lane near Mr Nicholls’ farm.
“This is the first road at the top of the bypass and there aren’t any houses down here,” he added.
He said that as soon as officials started charging for waste disposal the problems increased and that he had informed Shropshire Council and the police.
“If people are aware of it perhaps they will keep their eyes open but we are holding our breath until next time,” he added.
Chris Edwards, Shropshire Council’s assistant director for environmental maintenance, said: “Shropshire Council has introduced new procedures in order to investigate all fly-tips across the county.
“This involves analysing the tipped material which could lead to a prosecution. We ask the public to be vigilant and encourage them to report any incidents of fly-tipping to us on 0345 678 9006.”

the problem is that Councils are all getting rid of their commercial rubbish collections to docotr their performance figures to improve recycling performance to hit government targets. If you are a white van man now you cannot even use the tip, even if you offer to pay they refuse entry, thus fly tipping is on the increase
Councils and governments must do more in these harsh economic times especially to help small businesses have access to affordable and good quality recycling and disposal services
They have a legal duty under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to arrange collection of commercial businesses waste but they are ducking it, we must hold them to account and make them do thier job or fly tipping will only increase

THIS IS THE EU’S FAULT WITH ALL THEIR REGULATIONS HINDERING LOCAL BUSINESSES THEY ARE TOO POOR TO AFFORD A SKIP HIRE! GET BROWN OUT AND CUT TAXES NOW
Report abuse
This is because of fortnightly rubbish collections, the service is rubbish and thats becuase Labour and the socialist EU have conspired to cut your services. Look at this mess they have made by cutting back on pick ups of rubbish. A vote for conservatives is a vote to bring back weekly bin day, our chairman eric pickles has promised we will bring back weekly rubbish collections, not listen to EU diktats on recycling and slap people with fines, we will cut your council taxes and do the job we’re paid for (once a week every week)

How do they know this wasn’t an accident?

Tory Boy, once again you are speaking rubbish, you are a verbal fly tipper. You can get a skip for £40, private or business, don’t go creating excuses for this kind of appauling behaviour.

Tory boy, this story is not for political rhetoric, it is about a lazy person disgarding their rubbish.
