Harry coming to RAF Shawbury
Thursday 30th April 2009, 1:01PM BST.
Prince Harry is set to follow in his brother’s footsteps and will start life at a Shropshire airbase next week.
The prince, who is third in line to the throne, is due to be posted at RAF Shawbury to train as an Army air corps helicopter pilot from Tuesday.
Harry, 24, a lieutenant in the Household Cavalry Regiment, began training in January and appears to have re-directed his career in a bid to give himself a better chance of serving on the front line.
He is following in the footsteps of his brother Prince William, 26, who has just finished the first part of his course to become an RAF search and rescue helicopter pilot at Shawbury.
A spokesman for the Army today said: “The next part of his flying training starts on Tuesday.
“Obviously he will arrive sometime before then so it could be that he arrives over the weekend or on Monday.”
Harry was on the fixed wing phase of the Army Pilots’ course at RAF Barkston Heath, near Grantham, in Lincolnshire. The prince flew solo for the first time at the start of March following nine hours of flight training.
