Daggers boss has attack plan
Thursday 30th April 2009, 3:51PM BST.
“We only play one way which is to attack and we will be doing that on Saturday.”
Shrewsbury Town were today left in no doubt how Dagenham & Redbridge manager John Still will approach Saturday’s promotion shoot-out at Victoria Road.
Despite requiring only a point from the game to ensure they pip Shrewsbury to the final play-off position, Still insists his Dagenham team will be sent out with clear instructions to go all out for victory.
“The position makes no difference to us because we are an attacking team,” the experienced boss told StarSport.
“It’s what we have done for the last five years and I’m not going to change it in five days.
“Even if I tried to the players would be saying let’s do what we always do.
“If we find ourselves in the fortunate position of being 1-0 up, we will be trying to make it 2-0. If we are 2-0 up we will be trying to make it 3-0.
“If we are 1-0 down, we will be pushing just as much to level at 1-1.”
Still insists he is not surprised to see his side contending for a play-off berth despite only narrowly avoiding relegation last season.
The Daggers are operating with virtually the same squad, but Still insists he hasn’t been hampered by the same amount of injuries as he was 12 months ago.
And he is confident the enormity of Saturday’s encounter will not get to his players.
“We have become used to pressure games,” he added.
“In the last three years we have won the Conference, have been trying to stay in this league and are now pushing for the play-offs so we have got used to playing with pressure.
“But, playing at this level, every game is a big one for us.”
- Town had just 40 tickets of their 1,408 allocation for Saturday’s game left at start of trading today – and were expecting them to go quickly.
