Town businesses to get boost
Tuesday 28th April 2009, 12:17PM BST.
A regeneration board will be set up in Oswestry in a matter of weeks to help businesses survive the recession.
The board will be spearheaded by Oswestry Town Council, with backing from Shropshire Council’s economic development experts.
Councillor Gareth Jones, town mayor, today urged businesses of all sizes to get on board. He said: “We want to hear from the chamber of commerce on their plans to improve the town and work with them in partnership.
“Only in partnership can the regeneration board work. It will be a body which looks at issues through consultation and then it will take steps to improve the town.
“For example perhaps we will see if we can talk to the landlords to see if they can reduce the rents they are asking shops to pay.
“Oswestry has a lot going for it and the regeneration board will look at the positives as well and see how we can capitalise on them.”
