Swine flu hits as pair visit Mexico
Tuesday 28th April 2009, 4:03PM BST.
Two Shropshire men are in Mexico today as the alert level for swine-flu increased.
Daley Bosher, 21, of Hampton Road, Oswestry and Ben Leather, 25, of Treflach, Oswestry, are in Mexico City on different projects.
Mr Bosher has gone to the country to meet his girlfriend, Eirian Collinge, of Llangollen, who is on a gap year. He has only been there a week and is planning to stay for a month.
James Bond, Mr Bosher’s step-father, said he had spoken to him yesterday and he was well but was taking precautions.
He added: “He was in Mexico City itself, at first they didn’t know very much and felt that we knew more here than they did there.
“Then it got more serious and they closed museums and the underground stations. It was a bit scary for them,” Mr Bond said.
“His mother Calli is extremely worried.”
Mr Leather arrived in Mexico City last Monday to work with the Peace Brigades International.
His mother Dr Jacky Leather said: “We had an e-mail last night letting us know he is OK. He is in Mexico City for the next week.”
She added: “Ben said it was very weird because everything was shut down.”
The former Marches School pupil is on his fourth visit to Mexico.
