Region has swine flu action plan

Officials in Shropshire and Mid Wales are on standby with action plans to handle a swine flu pandemic.
Nicki Egginton, Shropshire Council Civil Contingencies Manager, said: “Established plans are in place, agreed with Shropshire Council and the relevant authorities such as the Primary Care Trust, to deal with potential situations like this”
Nigel Newman, of Telford & Wrekin, said: “The council would support very closely the work of colleagues from the health services who would lead on any response should an outbreak of pandemic flu occur.”
June Patel, Director of Nursing and Community Services for Shropshire County PCT, said: “Shropshire County PCT and NHS Telford and Wrekin have developed a comprehensive pandemic influenza plan in conjunction with other local and regional agencies.
“In light of current events, the NHS in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin is continuing to reiterate normal messages about the spread of flu and encouraging everyone to practice good hand and respiratory hygiene.
“This includes using tissues if you have a cold or cough and to wash your hands regularly.”
A spokeswoman for Powys County Council said contingency plans were in place for pandemic Influenza.
