I saw this protest. Not very many people, who packed up and left as soon as the press interest subsided. Hardly manning the barricades was it chaps?
Where does my support lie? The 20 or so nimby protestors, with their questionable health damage claims? Or the 90 or so jobs that would be created in times of recession? It’s a no-brainer…

Many thanks to all who gave up their time and support this morning at the protest of the opening of the Public Enquiry – our thanks as well, to TANC who swelled the ranks.
Without the Shropshire Star coverage, and that of BBC Midlands Today,Radio Shropshire, and Central News, our message and concerns would not have been heard.
Those who chose to “Be there” should not underestimate their part that has been played in making the public aware of the proposals by Uk Coal to devastate a very beautifil part of Shropshire, and endanger the haealth of many thosands of people in their pursual of the God Mamon.
Friends of the Ercall congratulate you on your commitment, courage, and boldness – thank you all.
Pat Judson, for Friends of the Ercall.

“Peters” comments most definately concern a “No brainer” – many of us involved in the protest went INTO the Inquiry, and heard exactly how many jobs were going to be available -40.
Some of us have put over 1,000 hours of work, research and commitment into fighting UK Coals proposal – not one of us have , or expect to be paid a single penny for our efforts, and the inputs from single comment people who obviously have no grasp on reality, or the REAL facts of opencast mining, are not suprising. Its people like this and their apathy, that allowed just over 20 people who have commitment to protecting the health of the majority of people in the area, to stand in the rain, and show UK Coal their proposal is wrong for Telford.
By the way, I dont live in the 2 Kilometre fall out zone from the mine , so NIMBY I am not – but I have many elderly friends in that area, that could do with the help of younger people – they fought the campaigns before – now its our time.

Peter, MORE JOBS would be created if we invested massively in energy conservation and renewable energy projects.
A Green New Deal would provide more employment and -at the same time- make our economy more resilient to future shocks like climate change and peak oil.
Burning coal will only accelerate the speed with which climate change impacts on us all.
Well done to the protesters.
