Inspectors’ praise for town school
Tuesday 28th April 2009, 3:59PM BST.
Pupils at a south Shropshire school reach above average standards, Ofsted inspectors have said.
Ludlow School also showed most parents and carers recognised it as a “good school”.
Pupils’ achievements were particularly good in the specialist technology and sports subjects and youngsters develop well as mature and sensible learners who behave well and enjoy good relationships with others, the report said.
Since the previous inspection, standards, attendance, students’ progress and teaching quality have improved significantly.
But the report recommended several areas for improvement.
It suggested increasing the challenge of work and sharpening its suitability for students of different abilities within the sets and groups to ensure the quality of teaching is consistently good.
Inspectors praised headteacher Phil Poulton saying staff, governors and many parents acknowledged his steadfast leadership has been the root of its improvement.
It said: “In a comparatively short time, he has built a strong team of senior leaders who achieve good results for their efforts to improve school performance.”
