A father-of-four who used his mobile phone to capture footage of an Audi car racing through his Shropshire estate at about 60mph has posted the film on YouTube.

Stuart Parr, 31, was so frustrated there was no possibility of tracing the culprit he decided to publicise the brief footage in the hope that someone would know who they were. Mr Parr, of Briarwood, Brookside, Telford, reported the incident to police.

But he was told that as the registration of the offending car is not recognisable and as there was no definite evidence of its speed on the film there was little they could do.

Mr Parr said: “I was on the pavement with two of my children when the car came racing past.

“I grabbed my phone and filmed it and managed to capture about five seconds of footage.

“Sadly, it was travelling so fast that the video didn’t capture the number plate.

“It’s a 30mph limit in the area and there are speed bumps in the road.

“If he’d hit one at an angle he could have been killed or he could have run someone down and killed them.”

Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, confirmed the incident on March 26 had been reported to officers.

“Two white males were said to have been in the car, one of them wearing a woolly hat,” he said.

“Officers attended the scene about an hour after the report, but it was not possible to make out the car’s registration number from the video footage.”

Mr Parr’s actions came to light just days after 18-year-old Michael James Hughes was banned from driving after video footage of him “showing off” at high speeds and taking his hands off the steering wheel while driving in Shropshire was posted on YouTube.

Hughes, of Falcons Court, Much Wenlock, was banned for 28 days and ordered to pay £225 after he admitted careless driving between September 1 and September 30.

Good on you Stuart for getting this shown to more people and in the Shropshire Star. We know that people use Brookside Avenue as a racetrack, people drive around the bumps and overtake the bus, when it is stopped by Bembridge, by going on the wrong side of the road past the island (refuge).

Plenty of scary stories abound of near misses for pedestrians :(

About time it was sorted out!!!

Well done indeed. Similar idiots drive like this everywhere. Your reply from the police confirms that unless they actually hit someone, the motivation to stop them is not there. Cure being better than prevention and all that!?

Now I am totally against anti-social driving – but have we not learnt anything from Mike the Mechanic (posted his own driving on web), and Molyneux the Magistrate (posted his deepest thoughts on Twitter)?

Well its this, the poster seems to come worse off.

Now how come alot of people were furious at their houses being photographed by Google but they are not complaining now? Just search Brairwood and you will get a video of the street, albeit with a speeding Audi, but otherwise the same as Google.

Well I sincerely hope that Mr Parr doesn’t get branded, Parr the Privacy Invador.

Lucy W, it isn’t actually Briarwood and nowhere in the report does it say it is. It is Brookside Avenue, which encircles the estate.

Let’s just hope the cave dweller in the video gets caught, incarcerated, and his licence permanently revoked.

This sort of driving needs stamping out, and is FAR worse and FAR more dangerous that Mike doing 96mph on the M54.

Fair play but is it really safe to be filming while driving. Assuming the camera operator wasn’t parked??

When will people start to read the article before making comments?!?

To Mint Spy, the article reads – Mr Parr said: “I was on the pavement with two of my children when the car came racing past.

So unless he was driving on the pavement…

I agree with trying to stop these idiots that think they own the road but after watching this video a few time my main concern as a parent is that even though Mr Parr can see the speed at which the car is going instead of grabbing his childrens hands and making sure they are safe he felt the need to record and in the video his daughter (a girl walking with him) is out in front of him and not by his side or holding his hand.

Tim: Just why was Mr Parr driving on the pavement? (its against the law – isn’t it?)

Oops my mistake shouldn’t have skim read.

Realised after but this site doesn’t let you delete comments. Was hoping it wouldn’t be approved.

Howeer I had seen a video of a motorbike he filmed on the EP which is why I jumped in to comment.

The report says he was wearing a woolly hat so it shouldn’t be long before our stout law enforcers will be feeling his collar.
