The company which operates Shropshire’s direct rail link to London is celebrating its first birthday – as it announced Easter was its busiest fortnight yet with nearly 9,000 people using the service.
Wrexham & Shropshire will officially celebrate the 12-month milestone tomorrow, but passengers, staff and politicians celebrated a day early with a special cake at Shrewsbury Railway Station.
Andy Hamilton, Wrexham & Shropshire’s managing director, said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our first year of service and are proud to have made travelling more affordable and convenient for passengers.
“Without the dedication of our staff and support from passengers and their communities, Wrexham & Shropshire would not be what it is today.”
Bosses said the firm had worked hard over the past year to “set a new standard” for rail travel, introducing “buy on board” tickets at no extra cost.

Used this excellent service during the Easter holidays to take my family to London. Would recommend it to all and will most certainly be using it again. Just hope that the sorry excuse for a train service provider “Arriva Wales keep their grubby, interfering little hands off the route.
