Bucks to rule on injury worries
Monday 27th April 2009, 12:49PM BST.
Injury doubts Jon Adams and Andy Brown will be assessed tonight as AFC Telford United begin the countdown to their play-off semi-final with Alfreton.
The Bucks finished the regular season with a 0-0 draw against Blue Square North champions Tamworth on Saturday to end up in fourth position.
That has set up a two-legged semi against third-placed Alfreton, with the home leg at the New Bucks Head on Wednesday and the return fixture on Sunday.
The other semi-final is between Gateshead and Southport.
Telford are gathering tonight for training – and it is the fitness of Adams and Brown that will be top of the agenda.
Midfielder Adams limped out of the Tamworth fixture after feeling pain in his hamstring, while leading scorer Brown is still struggling with a knee injury.
“I spoke to Jon yesterday and he said he’s feeling a lot better,” boss Rob Smith.
“The proof of the pudding will be in how well he can move around the park and we will know after training tonight.
“Andy Brown’s chances are good – he was still feeling a bit of discomfort on Saturday, but he’s getting better every day.”
Alfreton are the only side in the top five that the Bucks have not beaten this season – drawing 0-0 at home then losing 3-1 away over Easter.
Assistant manager Larry Chambers is forecasting a close contest however, declaring: “It’s a tough place to go, but I’d have been saying the same thing if it was Gateshead or Southport.
“We lost to them recently but we created chances in that game and could have come in at half-time 2-0 up.
“We tired in the last half hour and they took their chances, but I think it will be two evenly-matched teams.”
The Bucks should be fresh for their play-off assignment, with several first team regulars rested against the Lambs to guard against any extra unwanted injuries.
