Six young Mid Wales men who ruined Llanidloes Carnival
night with their “violent and thuggish behaviour” have been sent to
custody by a crown court judge.
One woman witness described the scene as one of the most horrific and sickening she had ever seen.
Nine defendants appeared before Mold Crown Court for sentencing yesterday – and all but three ended up behind bars.
Judge Peter Haywood branded it “a vicious and ugly incident” which had lasted in total for about an hour.
A charge of violent disorder against the nine defendants
was dropped at an earlier hearing when six of them admitted an
alternative affray charge.
Kieran Vaughan, 21, of Lon Gwern, Trehafren; Ian Prior,
22, of Dolgwenith, Llanidloes; a 17-year-old youth from Llanidloes;
Michael Price, 23, of Penparciau, Aberystwyth, and Samuel Lewis, 18, of
Glandwr, Vaynor, all received nine months custody.
Slaughterman Nathan Morgan, 23, of Dolgwenith, Llanidloes, who also admitted assaulting a police sergeant, received 12 months.
Christopher Stafford, 20, of Llais yr Awel, Llanidloes;
Josh Bolding, 20, of Pen y Craig Street, Llanidloes, and Craig Davies,
18, of Cae Gwyn in Llanidloes, admitted a lesser public order offence,
and they received 12-month community orders. Davies and Stafford were
ordered to do 120 hours unpaid work and Bolding 100 hours.
Mr John Wyn Williams, prosecuting, said at about 3am on
July 13, hours after the carnival, a fight developed in Great Oak
Street.
It continued when officers arrived from Aberystwyth and
other areas of Mid Wales. A police sergeant was tripped, making him
crash to the floor.
