Simpson stays focused

Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Simpson has refused to contemplate a potential winner-takes-all play-off decider at Dagenham next week by declaring: “We have to get it right tomorrow first.”
Town bring the curtain down on their regular home campaign with the visit of Lincoln City, an encounter crucial to their hopes of extending the season.
Simpson’s men can’t seal a play-off berth this weekend but would move back into the top seven if they better Dagenham’s result at Notts County.
But the Town boss is determined not to contemplate any of the possible scenarios and is instead solely focused on defeating Lincoln tomorrow.
“We have to just concentrate on this one because we are all fully aware if we don’t do it right in this one, there is a situation where the last one might not be of any use to us,” said Simpson ahead of the visit or the Imps.
“The situation of getting into the play-offs is still in our own hands and we know if we can do it right in this game, we can be in there.
“There is no point even talking about Dagenham yet because Saturday’s result is the most important.
“We have to do our job properly to make sure the last game does have a bearing on our season.”
Chesterfield and Morecambe also have an outside chance of gate-crashing the play-offs, while Simpson believes sixth placed Rochdale still have work to do to guarantee their spot.
“At this moment in time, sixth and seventh are still up for grabs,” he added.
“Rochdale are at Luton this weekend and then have Gillingham at home so they are not definite results in Rochdale’s favour. If we do our jobs, it gives us a chance to be able to catch Rochdale.”
Simpson has no fitness worries with the starting XI which defeated Rotherham last week, but there are concerns over two players who will be challenging for places on the substitutes bench.
A hip injury threatens the chances of striker Omer Riza making his home debut while David Worrall suffered a knee injury in the 2-0 reserve win at Walsall on Tuesday.
Kevin McIntyre is also pushing for a recall to the 16 after completing his rehabilitation from a broken leg sustained in January.
