New Spar store will create 25 positions
Thursday 23rd April 2009, 9:43AM BST.
Ludlow’s Spar store, which is set to open at the town’s former Woolworths, will bring up to 25 jobs to the town.
Sarah Deakin, marketing manager for Tates Ltd, which owns and operates Spar Convenience Stores throughout the country, has confirmed it has purchased the store in Castle Square.
She said: “We are waiting for an upgrade in the power supply. We are predicting to be opening within the next three months.
“It is going to generate between 20 and 25 staff vacancies – full and part-time positions – and we will be advertising locally at the time nearer the opening dates.
“We are really excited about it. We hope it will be nice, we think Ludlow is a lovely place,” she added.
Graeme Kidd, committee member for Ludlow Chamber of Trade, today welcomed the news.
He said: “As I understand it, most of the shop units that are currently vacant are under offer or negotiation.
“So it does look like Ludlow, while suffering, is not perhaps suffering as badly as some of the other towns in the local area.
“It has to be good news that a business like Spar is investing in the town centre and it should complement what is already in the town centre.”
Meanwhile, artists will be accessing the space at the old Woolies with a live painting event in the window on Saturday and Sunday.
