Handout photo of a painting thought to be a self portrait of Adolf Hitler, dated 1910, which is to be auctioned today - along with 12 other works - at Mullock's Auctioneers at Ludlow Racecourse in Shropshire. It has been identified as a self portrait by the initials 'A.H', which has been written beside the figure. It is expected to fetch 1,000 to 1,500. Photo credit: Mullock's Auctioneers/PA WireRare examples of Adolf Hitler’s early paintings during his time as a struggling artist were due to go under the hammer in Shropshire this afternoon.

The Nazi leader’s watercolours were expected to attract great interest and could fetch thousands of pounds.

The 13 works, left forgotten in a collector’s garage until now, even include a self-portrait by the infamous dictator.

The sale, which was also due to feature Elvis’s prayer book and Marilyn Monroe’s blouse, was being held by Mullocks Auctioneers at Ludlow Racecourse from 1pm. Richard Westwood-Brookes, for Mullocks Auctioneers, said it was difficult to predict how much the paintings would fetch.

He said: “Adolf Hitler pieces have in the past made hundreds of thousands of pounds but I’m not making any rash estimates on this.

“As works of art, they are hardly Picasso. You can take a view of Adolf Hitler and his prowess as an artist but I don’t think anybody would agree he was in the first rank, by any means.”
