Fans fired up for town’s glory bid

Shrewsbury Town’s expectant supporters are hoping to be their team’s 12th man in the nerve-wracking conclusion to the season after rallying to the promotion cause.

Brisk trading at the ticket office looks set to guarantee a bumper home crowd for Saturday’s visit of Lincoln and a sell-out away following of 1,400 for the final day trip to Dagenham & Redbridge a week later.

Both matches are vital to Town’s prospects of forcing their way back into the League Two play-off places.

Club officials are confident a bumper 7,000-plus crowd will be at the Prostar Stadium on Saturday to witness the final home game of the regular season.

And the early indications are that Town’s entire allocation will be snapped up for what is likely to be a vital last game at Dagenham.

“The ticket office has been very, very busy this week which is fantastic,” said Town general manager Jon Harris.

“We have got two games which could shape the short-term future of the football club and it’s great to see the fans getting behind the club.”

More than 5,000 tickets have already been sold for Saturday’s visit of Lincoln.

And that is raising the prospect of the second Prostar Stadium crowd over 7,000 this season, the other coming against Port Vale in October.

Dagenham’s victory over Brentford on Tuesday has raised the prospect of Town’s final game of the season against John Still’s men being a winner-takes-all encounter for the final play-off berth.

And Town followers have already responded with more than 500 tickets being sold with 10 days still to go until the fixture.

The game is now strictly all-ticket to Shrewsbury fans with 200 seats on offer and 1,200 places on the terraces.

Meanwhile, Omer Riza is hoping a hip injury doesn’t rob him the chance of making a home debut this weekend.

The forward sustained the minor problem after making a brief substitute’s appearance in last week’s victory at Rotherham, his first competitive appearance in 15 months.
