Will rail firm be reliable?
Wednesday 22nd April 2009, 9:31AM BST.
LETTER: Just over a week ago, there was uproar in the local community following the proposal by Virgin Trains to operate direct trains from Shrewsbury, Wellington and Telford to London.
Virgin Trains dropped their proposal following local and national publicity on the impact their plans might have on our local service from the Wrexham and Shropshire Railway Company. I want W&S to succeed so was pleased when Virgin dropped their proposal.
I assumed I could rely on W&S to continue providing a direct service to London. But apparently not.
Wellington residents have been lacking a direct service with an early morning arrival in London for some time and I now discover that, from May 18, a second W&S service – the last of the day to London – will also not stop at Wellington.
Of course passengers have the option of a connecting service via Telford or Cosford but at what cost? An extra 15 to 20 minutes on the journey time.
Please W&S – remember those of us who appreciate your excellent customer service and give us a local service from a local company.
