Parents call police after abuser jailed
Monday 20th April 2009, 11:12AM BST.
Police searching for other possible victims of a convicted paedophile from Mid Wales say they have already received 10 calls from concerned parents.
Dyfed-Powys Police issued an appeal for possible victims to come forward after David Bye was jailed indefinitely on Friday.
The 43-year-old admitted raping a young girl in a caravan in Mid Wales and possessing more than 17,000 indecent images of children.
Inspector Diane Davies said today: “Up until yesterday we had received 10 calls from around the UK and we are working very closely with other forces to follow up these leads.
“But these calls have no relation to the charges Bye has already been jailed for.”
Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court heard how police found more than 17,000 indecent images of young children, among them some of the worst examples of child pornography.
Officers also discovered 202 photographs of 10 children Bye had taken in his caravan in Mid Wales.
Officers believe Bye, who lived in Scotland, Hampshire and Kent before moving to Wales, may have been abusing children for decades.
Inspector Davies said: “There are almost certainly many more of Bye’s victims out there. We hope the fact he’s now been put behind bars for a long time, may persuade those victims and their families to come forward and get the help they need.”
