Telford told to roll up sleeves

Boss Rob Smith has set AFC Telford United’s sights on picking up a “bonus” point in tomorrow’s Blue Square North clash at Southport.
Smith believes four points from the last three games will be enough to secure a play-off berth, and would be happy with any kind of return from the trip to Haig Avenue.
The Bucks have already knocked Southport out of the FA Trophy this season and beaten them at home in the league, but the manager is taking nothing for granted.
“They’re still going for the league,” said Smith. “They’ve still got a chance, so it’s going to be tough.
“It’s always roll your sleeves up time when you go there, but we’ve put ourselves in a situation now where it would be a bonus to bring anything back.
“A point would be a good result and set us up nicely for the week ahead.
“We’ve got to get four points out of the last nine and we’re fully focused on making sure we do that.”
Tomorrow’s clash is Telford’s last away game of what has been a gruelling regular season – their 30th in all competitions – though there could still be at least one more to come.
“I hope it’s not the last away game – I hope we’ve got a play-off game to go as well,” added Smith. “We’ve spent that much time on the road this season, it’s unbelievable. It’s become a bit of a nightmare when that coach pulls up but the lads have coped really well.
“Everyone makes the effort no matter what, and I can’t commend the players enough for the dedication they have shown.”
Stuart Whitehead, Jon Adams (both hamstring) and Andy Brown (knee ligaments) will again be missing for tomorrow’s clash, though Smith hopes all three will be available for the home game with Tamworth a week tomorrow.
Striker Danny Carey-Bertram could also be rested against the Sandgrounders to help him shake off a knock which has restricted him in recent outings.
