Foley: Boss keeps Wolves focused

Friday 17th April 2009, 1:15PM BST.

kevinfoleywidePlayer of the Year contender Kevin Foley today revealed Wolves risk a verbal rocket from manager Mick McCarthy if they dare stray from their promotion goal in the carnival atmosphere tomorrow.

Victory for Wolves against managerless QPR will see the McCarthy’s Championship leaders return to the Premier League at a sell-out Molineux.

Wolves will also seal the title if they win and Birmingham fail to win at Watford.

And Foley insists McCarthy won’t allow the players to lose focus now.

“I’m sure it will be good for the fans but there’s no danger of any of the players getting sidetracked, especially with the gaffer we’ve got,” he said. “He’ll ensure our minds are fully focused on the job in hand and if we don’t do the business on the day then he’s going to let us know about it. Also, as a team, we’re going to let each other know.

“We need to produce a good performance – not just for ourselves but also for the fans.”

Foley urged Wolves to clinch promotion in style by finishing a golden season with a 100 per cent flourish. “We want to win the title and we want to win it in style,” he said. “We’ll be looking to take nine points from these last three games. We don’t want to rest now, we want to go for as many points as we can and see this league out.

“But we can’t get too carried away – we need to think about QPR. No one would appreciate me saying we’re there yet because there’s still games to go.”

Foley admits the players are keeping thoughts of facing Premier League greats such as Cristiano Ronaldo at bay until they have completed their task.

“Playing against great players like that is in the back of our minds, but the most important thing is to get the job done and take it from there,” he said.

  • Wolves won’t collect the Championship trophy tomorrow even if they win as it will not be at the ground.
