Workers reconsider strike threat
Thursday 16th April 2009, 2:40PM BST.
Workers at a Shropshire factory are to reconsider threatened strike action after an 11th-hour offer from management.
The 300-strong workforce at the Doncasters Aerospace Components Factory in Whitchurch Road has been balloted on whether to strike over pay and conditions.
Micky Tuff, regional representative for union Unite, which represents the workers, said a new offer was put forward by bosses yesterday.
He said staff would be informed next week and a new ballot held on whether a strike should go-ahead.
But he said industrial action has not yet been called off.
“A revised offer has been put to the union but more than 30 per cent of the work force are on holiday,” he said.
“The reps will be meeting the workforce on Monday to brief on the latest offer.
“We will then ballot membership accordingly and depending on the result will decide if industrial action is called off or not.
“An industrial ballot has gone ahead and action has not yet been called off.”
Mr Tuff said several strike dates had been set but he could not reveal when these were due to take place.
He said: “The dispute is based around pay and terms and conditions. It has been complicated and I cannot reveal details of the offer.”
A worker, who did not wish to be named, said it was the first time in more than 30 years that 300 shopfloor workers had been preparing to strike at the plant.

This is what we should expect from this Union, if it had it’s way it would take us back to the times of Jim Callaghan. Let’s hope common sense prevails but somehow, I doubt it.

Morons. Well the ones who listen to the union reps are . If you were my staff i would sack you and face the consequences.

Stupid to strike – better to have a job, than not. If they do strike, sack the lot of them and employ people that actually want to work.
