An area next to the RAF Cosford base was today sealed off for more than five hours amid a security alert.
The A41 road running past the base, near Albrighton, was also closed while a suspicious package near the perimeter fence was investigated.
The alarm was raised just before 8am when the package was found.
A bomb disposal squad sent to the scene discovered the suspicious object was not a device and the road was reopened shortly after 1pm.
Businesses and homes in the Long Lane area were evacuated.
