McIntyre ready to return

kevin-mcintyre21Midfield general Kevin McIntyre today handed Shrewsbury Town an end-of-season by boost by declaring he will be ready to play some part in the play-off push.

McIntyre, a regular during the first half of the season, has been sidelined since mid-January after breaking his leg at Port Vale.

But the former Macclesfield midfielder has now come through two weeks of training and played 45 minutes of the reserve game against Lincoln, scoring in the process, without any adverse reaction.

It remains to be seen whether Saturday’s trip to Rotherham will come too soon for McIntyre.

But he insists he will be available to manager Paul Simpson during the closing fortnight of the regular season.

“It’s been so frustrating because I honestly thought when it happened that I would only be out for six to eight weeks,” said the 31-year-old.

“It’s alright again now and I’ve got a couple of weeks training under my belt.

“It feels fine so we will just have to wait and see over Saturday (at Rotherham).

“But whatever happens then, I’m definitely going to be fit to play some part over the last couple of games and then hopefully the play-offs.

“I’m feeling stronger all the time.”

McIntyre admits it is a frustration Town now find their fate out of their own hands, but believes a place in the play-offs is still very much a realistic target.

“We’ve still got it all to play for,” he added. “We have only got ourselves to blame that we are relying on other teams but they have slipped up as well.

“We can analyse it for as long as we want.

“The facts are that we have got three games left and we have to get as many of the nine points available that we can and hopefully get into the play-offs.”

Meanwhile, manager Paul Simpson believes converting chances will be the key to his side breaking back into the top seven.

“I think the performances have been as good as they have been for a long time,” he added.

“But the one thing we have not had which we did at the start of the season is finishing it off and that has to change.”
