Bucks win eases pressure
Thursday 16th April 2009, 8:52AM BST.
A 2-0 win at the New Bucks Head against Farsley Celtic was just what was needed to get the play-off push back on track, writes blogger Joe Davies.
The 1-1 draw and against Redditch and 3-1 loss at Alfreton Town did little to help the current situation of fighting for promotion.
Some fans were left questioning the team’s ability to even make the play-offs.
Larry Chambers was in defiant mood after the Alfreton defeat, insisting the Bucks would make the play-offs and, if that was to be the case, a win was needed against Farsley.
A win was what we got, and a two-nil one at that. This can only breed confidence after two poor showings.
Having gone through a massive unbeaten run earlier in the season, everyone associated with Telford must now believe we can go unbeaten for the last three league games and the three play-offs and achieve our long-standing aim – promotion.
The goals came late, but as the saying goes, better late than never. Carl Rogers and Danny Edwards were the men on the score sheet.
The win has surely confirmed our play-off place as we are now five points ahead of Droylsden (who are directly below us and outside the play-off places) with only the three games left.
Since my last blog, AFC Telford were crowned champions of the Setanta Shield. It has been a good season in the cup and it was no real surprise that we managed to win the competition, although it is taking nothing away from the lads’ achievement.
Ryan Young made himself a Telford hero by saving three penalties in the shootout and he deserves the credit he has received.
We managed to build on the Setanta Shield victory with three points at home last night and we must continue that now into the games against Southport, Burscough and Tamworth and then into the play-offs.
