Wednesday 15th April 2009, 1:18PM BST.

trevor-sheperdShropshire County Cricket Club chairman of selectors Trevor Sheperd has resigned, writes JAMES GARRISON.

Sheperd has stepped down for “personal reasons” after almost 20 years serving the committee and around seven years as chairman of selectors.

Peter Bradley has taken over as head of the selection panel, and will be assisted by captain James Ralph and vice-captain Ed Foster.

“I’ve had a fantastic time being involved with Shropshire and it’s been a big part of my life,” he said.

“We have come so close to winning a trophy on so many occasions, and my big hope for the future is that Shropshire win something because they deserve to.”

Bryan Foulkes, chairman of the club, has paid tribute to Sheperd’s work.

“Trevor has done an awful lot for us and people just didn’t realise how much work he put in behind the scenes,” he said.

“It’s not the easiest job in the world – especially when you have players pull out on a Saturday night for a Sunday game and you are 150 miles away from base.”

The new-look selection panel will meet within the next week to name the team for the first game of the season, an MCCA Trophy round-robin match against Bedfordshire at Shrewsbury on Sunday, May 3.
