Moss piles on the pressure
Wednesday 15th April 2009, 1:28PM BST.
Darren Moss has set under pressure Shrewsbury Town a ‘two from three’ victory target as the League Two play-off race draws to a conclusion.
With five points separating sixth placed Gillingham and Chesterfield in seventh, there appears just one play-off position up for grabs.
Chesterfield are in pole position to land that one berth – but Shrewsbury are only one point adrift, while Bradford City, Dagenham, Morecambe, Lincoln, Rotherham and Morecambe can’t yet be ruled out of the equation.
“It’s very tight and it’s all to play for,” said Moss, who will make his 200th Shrewsbury start at Rotherham on Saturday after two spells with the club.
“We are disappointed because we had a massive weekend, gave two good performances against Bury and Rochdale, but only one point.
“But we have got to lift ourselves. We are still in there with a chance and I think two wins will be enough.
“All the other teams have got some tough games coming up, including Chesterfield, and they have all been slipping up as well.”
To achieve the six point target, Town must end a 20-match winless League streak on the road at either Rotherham on Saturday or Dagenham on the final day.
But full-back Moss, one of a number of players out of contract at the end of the season, is confident that elusive away win will come.
“The performances of late away from home have been good,” he added.
“We are not getting the rub of the green in the away games and not putting our chances away.
“The two away games we have left are going to be massive and I’m confident if we can keep playing as we are then the win will come.”
- Cheshire League division two side and Shropshire Challenge Cup finalists Whitchurch Alport have confirmed they will play a Shrewsbury Town XI in pre-season friendly. The game will take place at Yockings Park on Monday, August 10, at 7pm.
