Keogh backs Harewood move
Wednesday 15th April 2009, 3:40PM BST.
Man of the moment Andy Keogh wants Marlon Harewood to become a permanent addition to Wolves’ Premier League chasing squad.
On-loan Villa striker Harewood set up Keogh’s winner and an equaliser for Matt Jarvis in Monday’s see-saw 3-2 win at Derby after coming off the bench.
Keogh, who scored two at Pride Park, believes the on-loan Villa forward is exactly the sort of player Wolves need if they go up.
Mick McCarthy’s Championship leaders need just a point to clinch promotion.
“He could be a key player for us. He’s got Premier League quality, he’s a great player to have and he’ll carry on making himself a nuisance in the last few games,” said Keogh.
“He wouldn’t be playing for a club like Villa if he hadn’t got that quality, so yes (I’d like to see him here).
“The gaffer has been very good with some signings and I’m sure he’ll make some astute ones when he needs to as well.
“He’s been brilliant, especially with the injuries.
“He made himself a nuisance against Derby and did really well.”
On-loan winger Kyel Reid, who also played with Harewood at West Ham, said:
“He’ll be a good permanent signing for next season because when Wolves go up into the Premier League, it won’t be easy.
“He’s really important for us, especially with the injuries to Chris Iwelumo and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who have done well all season.
“We needed a strong lad and a target man to hold the ball up for us so Andy and Sam Vokes could play off him.
“He’s been a good acquisition and he’s got good attributes.”
Harewood, who has a year left on his contract, remains non-committal on his future.
“I don’t know what happening there (at Villa), but it’s here that matters for now and I’m just happy being here until the end of the season and then I’ll start again,” he said.
