We can be a threat, says Holt
Tuesday 14th April 2009, 12:23PM BST.
Shrewsbury Town will be the team to fear in the League Two play-offs – if they can squeeze into the end of season spectacle.
That’s the belief of striker Grant Holt, who found the net against his former club Rochdale in yesterday’s 1-1 draw at the Prostar Stadium.
Town remain in eighth position after yet another day of favourable results left them one point and one place out of the play-off positions.
Holt is encouraged by Town’s recent displays and is hoping that can continue for the final three games of the regular season and potentially beyond.
“It’s the same old story at the moment – we are performing well and just not getting our reward,” said the 26-year-old. “But we just have to keep going and hopefully it will come together.
“We have set a benchmark with the performances against Gillingham, Bury, Wycombe and now Rochdale – four teams that are up there.
“We haven’t picked up many points but if we do get in the play-offs – which I still think is achievable – we will be the team a lot of people look at and say they don’t want to play.
“As long as we are in with a chance, we will keep fighting. We have shown that we have got a team that is good enough to do that.
“We have got to tighten a few little things up but if we keep performing like that between now and the end of the season, I’m sure we will be in there and teams will be looking over their backs not to play us.”
Holt admitted it felt like two points dropped after Town failed to turn their first half superiority into goals.
“We are disappointed because we outplayed them, passed them off the park and we have come off and it’s 1-1 again,” he added. “We got the goal we deserved and we were looking sharp, passing the ball and moving it well.
“If we had held them for another three or four minutes I think they would have gone, but we have been punished again.
“We are confident but I’m just a bit disappointed for the manager (Paul Simpson) again. We have let him down a little bit by not getting the three points.”

Why would stfc be the team to fear? What’s the worst an opposing team can expect – a drawn if town are at home and a win against town if they are playing away!
Have town players and Simpson not learnt yet to keep their mouths shut before games because they are usually made to look stupid!
