No parking claim in stadium row

Residents near Oswestry are being urged to fight plans for 3,000 seats at a Welsh League football ground amid claims that there is insufficient parking.
Bosses at Welsh Premier League side The New Saints have submitted plans to Shropshire Council for six stands to seat 3,000 spectators at The Venue, Park Hall, near Oswestry.
The application says the seating is required “in order to comply with the Football Association of Wales national club licensing manual, and subsequently Europa League and Champions League requirements” – the side has already qualified for next season’s Europa League, which is replacing the Uefa Cup.
But the Park Hall Residents Committee has sent out hundreds of leaflets urging people to fight the plans.
The committee claims the 96-space car park, which would not be increased under the new plans, is not enough to cope with the 3,000-capacity stadium.
However, the applicants have submitted a green travel plan with the proposals encouraging people to use a park and ride scheme, walk or car share.
One resident, who declined to be named, said: “During the evening last week there were about 300 people at a game which saw 35 cars parked along the road as both the car park and the unofficial overspill car park was full to capacity.
“If this is the situation with just The Venue as it is, we dread to think what it would be like if the plans get the go-ahead.”
Mike Harris, The New Saints managing director, said: “There is adequate parking for the number of seats we are putting in, plus we have a sufficient parking scheme in the centre of Oswestry, plus overflow parking with partners in the area – the rugby club and the council.”

It didn’t work for the protesters against the prostar in shrewsbury. The fans have to park miles away in residential streets and walk.

Brimondo, its the same everywhere for big stadiums, the surrounding area is split up into sections and you have a pass to park in that area during the event, they wont build 3,000 seats and then 3,000 spaces, they will just allocate more areas to park in.

Whats the problem? Walking is good for your health! And have you not tried using the Park and ride?
As for the Park Hall development, Don’t forget that there is Oswestry Rugby Club and Park Hall Farm that has Car parking facilities The town Centre is 1.5 miles away, A very resonable walking/cycling distance to Park Hall, oh and don’t forget the Local bus services that either: 1) Goes past The Venue 2)Turns off a couple of hundred yards down Burma Road or 3)The Shrewsbury/Oswestry bus (Service no.70)that is usually ‘Every 30 minutes’ on Whittington Road.

Parking?? It frustrates me so much that that is what so many people care about when it comes to planning applications. What, there will be one game a week maybe two? How often will the stadium be full to capacity? Nothing against TNS but I’m not sure they get 3000 for every match. What about the wider benefits to your town? The team could end up bringing a huge team to the area think of the boost to its profile that would be. Besides you should support your local teams development, being from Telford I know what its like having your team about to face extinction.

Easy for all you.
Local Park Hall folk have enough to put up with, the ugly building and endless cars coming and going.
Enough is enough.
When the site was developed the plan was for a stadium for matches in Oswestry.
What happened to that?
Clear off TNS and good riddance.

The Junction at the end of Burma Road onto the A495 Whittington Road is not the best for increased traffic flow, as the view to the right is restricted.
Parking in Oswestry is not large, and a extra 3000 cars would kill parking in the town. Saturday’s in town are painful to park now, just think of a big match on a Saturday afternoon!!!
The only answer is to direct spectator traffic to a big area with a good road link (e.g. the cattle market), that is on the edge of town with a good link to the A5 and the A483. then have a free shuttle bus to the ground.

What is there to say TNS face extinction?
Rubbish.
They are just rich bullies with noisy cars.

‘Ranter’ what was there before ‘The Venue?’ a derilct complex used by drug users, owned by the Council. The Venue and The New Saints FC have done nothing but good for the area!! It’s about time certain people of Oswestry realised that the Town needs this devlopment, not a carpark!!

Nothing but good! Laughable spin.
I wonder who you work for!
Actually my poorly educated friend, what was there before was an athletics stadium used by Oswestry Olympians, who unlike your worthless chums put on something worthwhile.
They were promptly ousted!
