Andy Keogh insists Wolves won’t rest until they have clinched the Championship title and insisted: “We won’t throw it away now”.

The Irish forward was Wolves’ two-goal hero and man of the match in yesterday’s see-saw 3-2 win at Derby, volleying them ahead and then diving to head the winner that put his side within a win of promotion to the Premier League.

Mick McCarthy’s Championship leaders are seven points clear of the play-offs and have three games left with Birmingham and Sheffield United, while Cardiff and Reading have a match in hand but are 10 and 13 points adrift respectively.

Keogh said: “It would be silly to take our foot off the pedal because we want to be promoted, and as champions.

“We’ve been up there all season and we’re not about to throw anything away.”

Keogh insists the champagne must remain on ice, however, and sensibly continues to toe the party line by refusing to accept Wolves are promoted until they can’t be caught.

“The results were good for us but we’ve still got a job to do,” he said.

“Until it’s mathematically impossible for us not to be up, there will be no celebrations for us just yet.

“But we’ve gone about our business very professionally all season and we’re not about to slip up now with three games to go,” he added.

Keogh believes the heart Wolves’ players showed at Pride Park, when they came from 2-1 down at half-time to secure their sixth win in eight games, makes them formidable opponents in their final three matches, starting with the penultimate home game of the season this Saturday against QPR.

“Our fighting spirit was there for all to see yesterday and anyone who wants to play Wolves knows they’re in for a hard game,” he said.

On-loan winger Kyel Reid, who helped set up the equaliser for Matt Jarvis, accepts Wolves are very close to clinching promotion.

“We’re very close now. We just need to win another game then we’ll be fine,” he said.
