Farmers warned of rustlers
Tuesday 14th April 2009, 1:59PM BST.
Farmers are warned to be on their guard after 60 sheep were stolen from a farm on the Powys/Shropshire border.
The theft is the latest in a long line of sheep rustlings in the last 12 months.
Constable Kevin Jones said 20 ewes and 40 lambs were taken from fields near Moelddiwydd, Llanfihangel, between April 3 and 6.
Farmers Union of Wales president Gareth Vaughan, a sheep farmer from Dolfor, near Newtown, warned farmers to be vigilant.
He said incidents in Mid Wales in the past 12 months included one farmer in Newtown having 97 sheep stolen.
“There is little you can do because of footpaths and bridleways and public access,” he said. “You cannot lock everything up and this is becoming a problem.”
Glyn Davies, Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate for Montgomeryshire and a farmer from Berriew, said: “Farmers are struggling and this is just like having your home burgled.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Dyfed-Powys Police on 08453 302000.

That’s 20 ewes = 20 girlfriends for the Welsh male?
