Chambers: Bucks will hit play-offs
Tuesday 14th April 2009, 12:34PM BST.
Larry Chambers brushed off despondency over AFC Telford United’s latest defeat to make the bold promise: “We WILL make the play-offs.”
The Bucks went down 3-1 at Alfreton yesterday to leave them only two points clear of Droylsden, who are just outside the play-offs.
But assistant manager Chambers remains in defiant mood as Telford go into the last four games of the regular season.
“I’ll tell you now – we will get in the play-offs,” he declared.
“We always knew Droylsden would come on strong with a good run but we’ve got to look after ourselves. We’ve got Farsley Celtic at home tomorrow and that’s become a massive game.
“The lads are disappointed, they’re down, but we will make it.
“There’s been no outstanding side this season – there’s no Kettering and no Barrow who stand out like last time – and all the top sides look capable of beating each other.”
Telford were playing their fourth game in seven days yesterday and looked to be on course for a deserved point when equalising thanks to a stunning strike from Lee Vaughan.
But two goals in two minutes left them beaten and looking to patch up their walking wounded once again.
Midfielder Jon Adams was substituted just before half-time with a pulled hamstring, while skipper Stuart Whitehead was feeling the effects of a similar injury by the final whistle.
“We’ve played worse than that but it’s a difficult time for us – people like Stu Whitehead and Gav Cowan are absolutely shattered,” added Chambers.
“Jon Adams got a hamstring injury which is down to fatigue and there are a lot of players who are struggling, but that’s no excuse and we’ve got to dig deep and pull together.
“The lads are tired and we’ve been absolutely thraping lads like Carl Rodgers and Jon Adams.”
