Play-offs is goal for Nick

Monday 13th April 2009, 11:05AM BST.

Nick ChadwickStriker Nick Chadwick believes Shrewsbury Town still have the belief to reach the League Two play-offs – and is hoping to help spearhead their quest to reach the top seven.

Chadwick, who has signed a deal to the end of the season, scored his first Town goal – albeit in a losing cause – at Bury on Friday.

That came in the 26-year-old’s first start for a month and he is now hoping to play a major part in the run-in, beginning with this afternoon’s League Two home game against Rochdale.

“I’ve been a bit frustrated because I thought I did well in the four games I played previously,” said the former Everton youngster.

“But you respect the manager’s decision. He has gone with what he has thought and we have had some really good performances.

“It was a case of having to be professional, keeping my fitness right and getting myself ready for when the opportunity comes.

“I was glad to get the goal on Friday and do well. Any player will tell you that a run of games is what you need and I am no different.

“That’s what I’m looking for now, but you have to keep playing well.”

Chadwick insists there remains a confidence within the Town dressing room that they can earn promotion, despite run of just one win in 10 games before this afternoon.

“The belief is unreal and the performance on Friday showed that when we out-played one of the top sides in their League in their own backyard,” he added.

“We know we are a good side. We need to prove that by turning the performances into results.”

l Two Town strikers currently on loan from the Prostar Stadium got themselves on the scoresheet on Saturday.

Michael Symes grabbed his first goal for Accrington – the first time he has found the net in senior football since October – as they secured a 1-0 success at Grimsby.

And James Constable hit a last minute winner for Oxford as they defeated Wrexham by the same scoreline in Blue Square Premier.
