Injured football fan Ryan feted

Lee Moore, left with Ryan Asson. A 14-year-old Telford boy was treated like a star after being injured when he was hit in the face by a rock thrown through the window of a football supporters’ coach.

Officials at AFC Telford United pulled out all the stops to make Ryan Asson’s day after he was scarred for life by the attack as he left last week’s Setanta Shield cup final against Forest Green Rovers in Gloucestershire.

And the teenager, of Dawley Bank, was given VIP treatment at Saturday’s game at the Buck’s Head ground.

His father, Kevin Stallard, of Newdale, said today: “Everything was absolutely fantastic. The club was brilliant and the supporters were absolutely great towards Ryan and myself and his mum.” The youngster got to meet the players before the game, including his favourite, goalkeeper Ryan Young.

They gave him a get-well card signed by the team, as well as one from the supporters’ trust. He was also given a shirt and scarf.

Before the game Ryan also got to parade the Setanta Shield around the pitch when he was given lots of applause by the fans, one of whom gave him £10. Drinks and food for the family was also on the club.

The club will also be giving Ryan and his dad season tickets for next year.
