Brown sweats on injury concerns
Monday 13th April 2009, 11:00AM BST.
Top scorer Andy Brown will learn tomorrow whether he can return to play a part in AFC Telford United’s promotion charge.
The 20-goal striker suffered a knee ligaments injury in last Thursday’s Setanta Shield victory at Forest Green and was missing for Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Redditch.
He was also definitely ruled out of this afternoon’s clash at Alfreton and has been booked in to see a specialist to determine the extent of his injury.
His absence is a blow for the Bucks, who were also without Leicester loan striker Ricky Sappleton on Saturday because of transport problems getting to the ground.
Matty Lewis was also missing for the Redditch game because his girlfriend went into labour on the morning of the match.
“Browny’s having a scan tomorrow so we’ll know more then, but it’s not looking good,” said assistant manager Larry Chambers.
“We’re hoping, at best, that we can get him back for the play-offs.
“I’ll know more about Ricky’s situation when I’ve spoken to Leicester.
“We had Matty unavailable as well on Saturday so we were lacking options up front, but I still think we should have done better than we did.”
The draw with Redditch certainly infuriated Chambers, who felt the opposition were rather unfortunate not to take all three points.
The Bucks paraded the Setanta Shield in front of a healthy Easter crowd of more than 2,000 fans and were in front thanks to a Jon Adams goal against the run of play.
But the visitors deserved their second half equaliser, having created a succession of chances in both halves.
Chambers admitted: “Sometimes you have to give the opposition credit, and I think the worst they deserved out of the game was a point.
“They got at us from the word go, and we scored a goal slightly against the run of play. They could have been two or 3-0 up by then.”
