Crowds revved up for festival

Saturday 11th April 2009, 11:46AM BST.

car-in-motionPetrolheads in their thousands are descending on Weston Park for the 22nd Midlands Festival of Transport this Easter.

Organiser Geoff Price said a record 1,700 vehicles – from vintage motorcycles to 200mph supercars – had been entered for the event.

And he hoped the fine weather would attract crowds of 15,000 to the stately home on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border.

“Last year it was so cold the attendance was just 3,500,” he said.

“But this year the ground conditions are perfect and the weather forecast is brilliant so we are expecting a top turnout.”

The show takes place tomorrow and Easter Monday and is Britain’s first major classic motoring event of the year.

Attractions include the ear-splitting racket of giant World War Two aero engines being fired up in the arena and the Piston Rings Motorcycle Display Team.
