Holt tipped for new trophy

Friday 10th April 2009, 12:29PM BST.

grant-holtHe’s already grabbed one prestigious honour this season – and bookmakers believe Shrewsbury Town striker Grant Holt has the chance to add another to his collection before the campaign ends.

The 26-year-old is second favourite to win the League Two’s golden boot award for the division’s top scorer.

Holt has already bagged 18 goals in League Two to lie just two behind current leader, Chesterfield’s frontman Jack Lester.

Bookmakers Victor Chandler make Holt a 4-1 chance to top the charts, with Lester the 11-10 odds-on favourite.

“Lester has been a class act this year, but he is not home and dry by any means.” said VC spokesman Neal Wilkins.

“There could well be a few twists as the season draws to a close – someone could well come out of the pack and steal it from him.”

Other players in contention for the gong are John O’Flynn of Barnet, Simeon Jackson of Gillingham, Adam Le Fondre of Rochdale and Rotherham striker Rueben Reid.

That quartet are all one behind Holt ahead of Town’s game at Bury this afternoon.

  • Shrewsbury Town’s office is open tomorrow from 10am to 4pm for fans to buy tickets for Monday’s home game with Rochdale.
