And a 24-year-old Shropshire woman has died in hospital eight days after her car left a road and crashed into trees. Ken and Daisy Davies were declared dead at the scene of yesterday’s crash on the B4393 between Llandrinio and Ardd-leen.

Police said a 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident.

In the other accident in Hubert Way Shrewsbury, the woman, who has not been named, died in hospital on Tuesday.

She suffered serious head injuries and cuts to her face when a grey MG ZR left the road before striking trees on March 30, at about 3am.

Police had said her condition had appeared to be improving and her injuries were no longer considered life-threatening, but she later died at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Meanwhile, tributes were today paid to Mr and Mrs Davies, of Bron y Buckley, Welshpool.

Brian Davies, Mr Davies’s brother, also of Bron y Buckley, said: “Ken was much more than a brother to me, he really was a best friend and I will miss him so much.

“The last thing I said to him yesterday was ‘I’ll see you tomorrow’ and now I never will. They were a wonderful couple.”

Councillor Ann Holloway, Welshpool mayor, attended school with Mr Davies and said she was a lifelong friend of the family.

“I would pass Ken each morning while we were both going to get our newspapers and I can’t believe I won’t again,” she said. “This will shock the whole of Welshpool and my sincere condolences go to the remaining members of the family.”

Inspector John Tatton, of Dyfed-Powys Police, said: “The collision involved a HGV tipper lorry and a grey Rover 214.” The crash happened at about 11.20am and the road was closed for more than six hours.

Mr Tatton said: “Police are seeking any witnesses who may have seen the collision or saw the two vehicles driving along the B4393 prior to the incident.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Constable Marcus Wright, at Newtown police station, on 08453 302000.”
