Event to celebrate flight anniversary

Thursday 9th April 2009, 10:39AM BST.

Organisers of Shropshire’s largest miniature airshow have announced a recession-busting price freeze on tickets to give a helping hand to the thousands of loyal supporters who attend the annual event.

Tickets to the Large Model Aircraft Rally at the RAF Museum at Cosford will be held at the same price for the fourth year running.

More than 10,000 people regularly turn out to the event which is being held on July 18 and 19 this year.

More than 150 scale models of various iconic aircraft will take to the skies during the two-day rally.

Dave Johnson, chairman of the Large Model Association which organises the event with the RAF museum, said: “It is great to be returning to Cosford again this year.

“This is one of our largest rallies in 2009 and our members always look forward to showcasing their models, some of which take over five years to build. We recognise that times are tough currently and wanted to give our visitors, many of whom are regulars, an excellent show without increasing the cost.”

One of the themes for this year’s show will be the celebration of the centenary of Louis Bleriot’s first successful flight across the English Channel in 1909 with a model of Bleriot’s famous machine, the Bleriot XI, taking to the Shropshire skies.

Events and activities on the airfield will include more than 60 trade stands and children’s fun rides.

The RAF museum will also be open to visitors on both days and admission to the rally will include entry to the museum.

Ticket prices are being held at £9 for adults, £5 for children, £7 for senior citizens with a family ticket for two adults and up to two children at £20.
