Tiger tiptoes in park
Wednesday 8th April 2009, 8:09AM BST.
Morris the 16-year-old Bengal tiger heralded the start of British summer time by taking a stroll through the daffodils at the West Midland Safari Park.
Despite being the largest member of the cat family with powerful paws concealing razor sharp claws, Morris still managed to tiptoe through the delicate blooms without the slightest spoil.
Morris was seen strolling through the daffs during the early summer sunshine in the four-mile self-drive safari in Bewdley, near the Shropshire border.
Wendy Jackson, from the park, said: “Like most cats, Morris is also partial to all kinds of scent. Therefore, staff at the park regularly introduce a variety of new smells to the tiger reserve giving Morris and his companions something else to investigate.
“This comes from a range of sources and in the past has included aftershave and ladies’ perfume, which creates the ultimate fascination. At this time of the year staff can fortunately relax a little from their creative, if sometimes rather bizarre sensory duties, since the whiff of fresh flowers is all that is required to keep Morris interested.”
Morris is one of 17 Bengal tigers at the park – of 11 which are white the largest group of Bengal tigers in the UK.
