Elderly couple killed in HGV smash

Wednesday 8th April 2009, 4:46PM BST.

Two people, believed to be an elderly couple, have died in a crash with a lorry on the Powys/Shropshire border.

The collision, between a car and a heavy goods vehicle, happened on the B4393 junction between Four Crosses and Llandrinio shortly before 11.30am today.

Aidie Bowen, leading fighter at Oswestry Fire Station, said: “One saloon car had collided with a large HGV. Several ambulances and several police cars also attended and the road was closed for a while.

“Unfortunately by the time we got there, there was nothing we could do to help the elderly couple in the car.”
