Dog mess sprayed orange
Wednesday 8th April 2009, 10:56AM BST.
When Pontesbury resident Brian Morris was out walking his dog, he was mystified to see lots of orange spray paint on the ground.
When he took a closer look, he realised someone had been out spraying dog faeces in orange paint. He then noticed a spray sign on the path of the old railway line from Pontesbury play ground to Pontesford saying “dog poo – clean it up”.
Mr Morris said: “We have a phantom dog poo sprayer.
“Someone had gone around spraying all the poo in the grass orange. It looked like quite a lot.
“It brought my attention to see just how much dog poo is in the grass near where the children play. As a responsible dog owner it brought to my attention how many irresponsible dog owners there are.”
Mark Howorth, Shropshire Council’s street scene manager, said: “Our street scene and dog warden officers will be investigating the site and will be taking any appropriate action to clear the problem.”

More dog wardens are required to patrol dog walking routes with a fine of 300pounds for anyone caught not picking up and bagging would solve the problem.

Well done that person for “highlighting” the issue. I would have gone further a sprayed the irresponsible owners orange too! if they could be found.

Well, at least if it’s bright orange it makes it easier to avoid treading in it. Sounds like whoever is doing this is quite public-spirited, unlike the irresponsible dog-owners responsible for leaving it uncleared.

Could someone please do this around Aqueduct and Stirchley, along the Silkin Way and field nearby?
Walking with my son there the other day was not very pleasant! Owners – please clean up after your dogs!

In this crazy world, will the public spirited “sprayer” now be persued and arrested for grafitti?

Hopefully someone will do this in Bayston Hill too :-)

Well done to the sprayer keep up the good work. Someone thinks my front garden in Peveril Bank is their dogs toilet.Might start doing this myself around here in Dawley Bank cus nobody cleans up after their dogs around here.

Someone already writes in yellow chalk “clean up your dog mess” on the pavement next to piles of dog poo in Bayston Hill. Perhaps they need a can of orange spray too. I will willingly buy them a can!! As a responsible dog owner who has poo bags in all the pockets of all my coats and jeans why can’t others? They are not exactly bulky or heavy!!

Mystery Orange Poo, Strange Lights in the Sky ….Just a coincidence ?
By the Way, am I meant to contact DirectLine Insurance or Shropshire Environment Maintenance if I have a poo problem ? It’s quite hard to tell the way this page displays.

I am a responsible dog owner and clean my dogs poo and pick up litter too at times. My husband calmed a woman considering suicide in a canal early in the morning a few years ago when walking our dog until help arrived.
Our neighour across the road, circles dog poo with chalk. Very noble and not as aesthetically and environmentally damamging as using spray paint BUT she keeps cats which are constantly defacating in our garden, especially the veggie plot.

Set up a vigilante group and shove it through the owner’s letter box – it worked in my village.

Haughmond Hill as well please – we’ve stopped walking there, it’s one big heap of dog poo!

more bins needed me thinks, and more fines
and less dogs generally would help!

Well done mystery sprayer, as a responsible dog owner and a mother to young children I congratulate you on raising this issue to everyone’s attention. This has been an issue in Pontesbury for a long time, not only down the old railway track but along the paths going to school. It not only looks and smells unpleasant but it also has serious health issues for children, if they thought about this maybe the inconvenience of bagging it and binning it or carrying it with them for a short while wouldn’t appear so much of a major issue.

LucyW – I would not advise your course of action

Lucy W upholds the pleasures of friendly village life.
Haughmond Hill is full of pooing wildlife and riders who’s horses do not wear a nappy.
In all the 30 years my brother has been a local GP he has never seen a case of toxoplasmosis caused by a dog but cats cause many problems from asthma to sickness etc.

why cant there be dog bins at haughmond hill its a disgusting place now
Report abuse
Has anyone actually heard of ANYONE being prosecuted?

All the people complaining about it and spraypainting it, could’nt you just put it in a bag and dispose of it yourself – it would take you all of 10 mins to do.

I carry round nappy sack bags everywhere i got. They even hide the smell. Don’t have a dog if you can’t clean up after it. A friend of mine argued that picking up his dogs poo was disgusting and refused to do it. It’s far worse having to clean down your kids because they’ve got it on their shoes.
Haughmond hill is unusable now, dog mess everywhere.
i blame the EU, lets hang dogs and all criminals too
Report abuse
i think the council are useless, why spray it orange, thats no doubt some EU regulation, just clear it up, get on with it, we pay you enough taxes so do the job
Report abuse
lets hope it shames the council into providing more dog bins, especailly around Haughmond hill, that place is a shame on shrewsbury
Report abuse
Well haughmond hill is a flick it with a stick area off the path and in to the area where the general public are not supposed to walk it then rotts away.
Why if people do not wish to pick up the dog mess dont they train their dog to the gutter or to go before they take it for a walk??.

Bayton Hill does have a problem with some owners letting their dogs foul the pavements and not cleaning up afterwards. A lamp post just as you turn into Overdale Road from Lythwood Road regularly has a large deposit of ‘poo’at the bottom of it under the sign which says’£1000 fine for dog foulng’.Obviously the owner can’t read !

Tory Boy
That is why pay enough taxes because of lazy selfish anti-social morons.

To Y Mab Dorogan – picking up someone elses dog mess will not help the situation in the long run, they will still keep doing it, trust me I know I have done this, I think the spray painting has highlighted the issue and will hopefully make them think about picking it up themselves and if nothing else the kids can see where it is and avoid it.
Tory Boy – it is not the council who have been spray painting the dog mess it is a concerned member of the public who I personally think has done a good job of highlighting the problem in Pontesbury.
The dog wardens have been made aware of the problem in Pontesbury now and have pledged to patrol the area more frequently and will pick up any mess left, hopefully their presence will make other residents think about leaving their dog mess.
