Woman hurt in bus accident
Tuesday 7th April 2009, 1:04PM BST.
A woman in her 70s was injured when her car was in collision with a stationary bus as passengers were boarding in north Shropshire.
No-one on the Tanat Valley Coaches bus was hurt when it was involved in a collision with the car driven by an elderly woman outside Lakelands School in Ellesmere.
The car and the bus were awaiting recovery today after the accident on Oswestry Road at about 5pm yesterday.
Nick Culliford, operations manager for Tanat Valley, said today: “The bus was sat in the lay-by taking fares and the driver was minding his own business when the old lady’s car veered across the road and drove into the front of it.
“It ran into the front of the bus and jammed itself into the bus
“We got another bus firm to collect our passengers and let them finish their journeys. The old lady was treated for shock by the emergency services.”
The bus involved was the 449 Ellesmere to Oswestry service, he added.
Chris Kowalik, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: “One ambulance crew went to the scene just before 5pm. There had been a collision between a bus and a car and one woman in her 70s was injured and conveyed to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.”
An eye-witness who did not wish to be named said: “The bus and car were embedded in each other, it looks quite a mess.”
