Thrilling line-up for model air show

Tuesday 7th April 2009, 12:03PM BST.

1452174Pint-sized planes and mini-motors will be thrilling the crowds when the annual International Model Air Show returns to Weston Park.

The Wrekin Model Flying Club says the show, now in its 15th year, will be the biggest and best ever.

Heart-stopping aerobatics and the chance to build and launch your own rocket will be just some of the attractions at the stately home on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border on June 20 and 21.

Spokesman Steve Bishop said: “There will be everything from model turbines doing 250mph low passes to large-scale multi-engined World War Two bombers and one third scale aerobatic bi-planes.

“Many of the top names in the sport will be displaying their models and flying skill and there will also be model car racing and displays and a model boat show.

“This year we are holding a large bring and buy over the two days.

“And the rocket school will again be in session, giving children a chance to build and fly their own rocket. They get to keep their handiwork afterwards.”

Mr Bishop said one of the most spectacular features will be the full-size Red Bull aerobatic display by Mark Jeffires in an Extra 300S, a single-seat aircraft capable of hair-raising stunts.

Microlights, light aircraft, a craft fair, fun fair, model car racing track, boating pool, beer tent, refreshments and more than 100 trade stands are also lined.

Admission is £9 for adults, £5 for children over four and £25 for a family ticket of two adults and three children. Camping for the weekend is £45 on the gate and £40 in advance.
